Eighteen years ago, we set out to offer an authentic consulting service that would raise the industry benchmark for environmental impact assessment, management and monitoring. Today our services are engaged on the most critical projects for commercial, government and non-profit institutions to solve complex polycentric problems.
Managing Director | Information Design
Derek is a digital specialist with over 20 years of experience specialising in the design and production of visual communication tools that engage, inform and influence. He applies industry leading design skills in CAD/GIS applications to support large scale projects for the resource, energy, infrastructure and property sectors specifically for environmental approvals, environmental monitoring, post approval compliance and reporting.
In his spare time you’ll find him on the tools, building or renovating, paddling on Sydney’s northern beaches with wife Em and enjoying family life with three young kids and a border collie.
DR EMILIE MASCARENHAS
Principal Environmental Specialist
Emilie is a principal environmental specialist with over 16 years of experience in ecological assessments, research and monitoring spanning academic, consulting and non-government institutions. Her experience includes environmental approvals and compliance as well as communication of ecological information to land managers, government agencies and researchers.
With her expertise in the design, analysis and interpretation of ecological monitoring programs, Emilie assists clients to optimise their investment in ecological monitoring. Emilie’s PhD research had a strong focus on scientific method for ecological monitoring to better inform environmental decision-making and to improve reporting on environmental outcomes.
Principal Planning Approvals and Compliance
Mark has over 20 years of experience in management of approvals, compliance and land access in the resources sector including both private and government roles across New South Wales and Commonwealth jurisdictions. He has managed contemporary approvals teams under tight deadlines, and has directed government relations teams, lawyers and the media through sensitive environmental, social and economic settings, including one of Australia’s most controversial approvals; the Warkworth Continuation Project. Mark is known for his practical experience in all aspects of the environmental field and has a reputation of simplifying complex concepts for clients.
Mark loves pottering in his vast vege patch growing treats for his family. If you catch him there you find him with muddy hands ranting about organics, soils and Go Go Juice. Growing the world’s biggest tomato is his dream.
DR JAMIE SEATON
Principal Social Impact Assessment and Community Engagement
Jamie has more than 10 years of experience in the delivery of community and stakeholder engagement programs which create positive stakeholder relationships that provide our clients with a social license to operate. He specialises in community relations, social impact assessment, and issues management and applies his expertise in the transport infrastructure, natural resources, education and energy sectors. In 2010 he completed a PhD which focused on the social impacts of population migration for local communities.
Jamie is currently building a home on the coast with wife Kim and with the help of three young boys. When he can take a break from the build and family commitments, Jamie tries to prove to himself that he still has what it takes to do some high-intensity exercise at the local park or bush track.
DR PAUL FRAZIER
Paul helps us to streamline our processes and think a little differently. With over 30 years of experience in government, university and consulting, Paul brings his diverse experience and skills network to Cambium Group. He has researched and published widely on environmental monitoring of rivers and wetlands and more recently, mine sites. For the last 10 years Paul has blended his in depth scientific knowledge with developing knowledge on communication, teaching and leadership. ‘All problems are there to be solved and there are often many solutions’ – an attitude that resonates with our company vision and the complex polycentric nature of our projects.
Down time is used to read and learn new things and perfecting his sour dough bread (which is now moderately passable).
Principal Urban Planner and Policy Advisor
Tony has enjoyed a long career in local government and environmental consulting. In local government Tony has been a senior officer for three councils covering rural, regional and metropolitan contexts. The roles he has occupied involved technical expertise, managerial competence, and political savvy. For the last fourteen years of his local government career, Tony was engaged in urban renewal projects which involved the transformation of the Rhodes Peninsula, Five Dock town centre and the Parramatta Road transformation project. In addition to facilitating best urban outcomes for these centres and their communities, Tony was intimately involved in the provision of community support services and facilities funded substantially by development contributions (mostly through Voluntary Planning Agreements). From Tony’s experience, Councils can achieve good development outcomes, provide improved amenities and facilities for existing and future residents, and enhance Council’s role as an active facilitator.
Tony is now a board member of a not for profit community housing and aged support organisation and is actively involved in his own building project whilst enjoying the ambience of the beautiful mid north coast of NSW.
